Field Trips: Included are local trips
to the Ethnobotanical
Garden and Place
of Refuge National Park; one day trip is spent visiting Volcano
National Park and a wholesale orchid growing farm (Pacific
Orchid Farms). Opportunities to swim or snorkel (optional) are available
daily.

Place of Refuge, a National Park, is just a 15 minute
drive away down a local road:
The painted church not only has beautiful and interesting
plantings, but the first Pastor, quite an artist, did work that is well
worth the viewing:
We visit the local Ethnobotanical Garden, another short
drive. Our first year they harvested a breadfruit for us, which Tina,
a fantastic jeweler (Lopez
Island Jewelry) and our cook for that year, cooked up into a tasty
dessert:
Orchids are supplied from Christopher Lichty and Pacific
Orchid Farm; here he is teaching about tissue culture and growing orchids:
He also lets us cut more sprays of orchids for the
second half of the workshop, so we always have fresh and fragrant material:
